Fall in Eagle Point, Oregon: A Local's Guide to Autumn in the Upper Rogue Valley
Ask anyone who lives in the Upper Rogue: fall is when Eagle Point, Oregon really shines. The heat of summer fades, the oaks and creekside trees turn gold, and Highway 62 becomes one of the prettiest drives in Southern Oregon. Whether you're thinking about moving to the Rogue Valley or you already live nearby and just want new weekend ideas, here's my local guide to fall in Eagle Point.
The Historic Butte Creek Mill in Eagle Point, Oregon
You can't talk about Eagle Point without the Butte Creek Mill. Construction began in 1872 along Little Butte Creek, and the mill ground its first flour on August 30, 1873, according to the mill's own history. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Its nomination form describes it as one of only two remaining water-powered mills in Oregon, and the only one grinding flour.
The mill burned on Christmas Day 2015. The community rallied to rebuild it, and it sold its first batch of grain again in December 2020. Today it's a beloved landmark, and every November it hosts a Holiday Market & Bazaar (this year Nov 21–22). Stop in, grab some fresh-milled flour, and you'll understand why locals are so proud of it.
Fall on the Rogue River Near Eagle Point OR
Eagle Point sits just off Highway 62, and a short drive north brings you to the Rogue River at Shady Cove. Jackson County's Upper Rogue Regional Park (7660 Rogue River Drive, Shady Cove) is about 19 miles northeast of Medford via Hwy 62. It has a boat ramp, picnic tables and a universal-access fishing platform.
Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife lists the park for salmon, steelhead and trout. Fall and winter steelhead are a big draw on the upper Rogue. Seasons and rules change by reach and date, so always check the current ODFW regulations before you fish.
Lost Creek Lake and the Road to Crater Lake
Keep heading up Highway 62 and you'll reach Lost Creek Reservoir. ODFW puts it about 33 miles and 45 minutes from Medford, with trout fishing that stays "very good into the fall and winter." Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area sits on the reservoir with a boat ramp, a café/store, and about 5½ miles of hiking trails plus 6 miles of bike paths. Its campground is seasonal, open March 1 through October 31.
Oregon State Parks notes that Crater Lake National Park is 36 miles northeast of Joseph Stewart on Highway 62. Living in Eagle Point puts you on the doorstep of one of the most scenic drives in the state. One fall tip: the National Park Service closes Crater Lake's Rim Drive to cars on November 1 (or earlier with snow), but Highway 62 and the road to park headquarters stay open all year. Check current conditions before you go.
Honoring Veterans in Eagle Point
Eagle Point is home to Eagle Point National Cemetery on Riley Road, the final resting place of more than 28,000 veterans, spouses and dependents (KOBI-TV). Each November the community comes together for Veterans Day. In 2025 that included a parade through downtown, which the Rogue Valley Times covered. If you're new to town, attending is a meaningful way to feel the heart of this community.
Holiday Season Kicks Off in Eagle Point, Oregon
November is bazaar season in the Upper Rogue. The Holiday Bazaar at the Eagle Point Grange (Nov 13–14) and the Stars & Stripes Holiday Market at Eagle Point High School (Nov 21–22) are local favorites. Then on December 4, the Eagle Point & Upper Rogue Chamber hosts its tree lighting at Bob Moore Park, followed by Santa at the Grange Hall. Small-town traditions like these are exactly what my clients tell me they're looking for.
